Windshield Wiper Systems: Components and Selection Basics

wiper blade guide

A wiper system brings together an electrical drive, a mechanical arrangement and components that contact the windshield. Understand these roles first, then use the installation requirements to choose a layout and confirm a project configuration.

What each component does

ComponentRole
MotorSupplies the drive motion; electrical and output characteristics depend on the selected model.
Linkage or direct driveTransfers motion to the pivots in the chosen arrangement.
ArmsCarry the blades and apply the required contact force through the installation.
BladesContact the glass and move water from the swept area.
Washer components, if suppliedReservoir, pump, tubing and nozzles store and deliver the specified washer fluid.

Choose the arrangement before fixing dimensions

Windshield shape, mounting space, target swept area and parking requirements determine the layout review. LEILI KG model references illustrate mechanical forms rather than one fixed universal set of dimensions. Motor choice, pivot positions, arms, blades and washer configuration are confirmed against the agreed project drawing.

Follow the drive path

The motor and its drive arrangement move the wiper pivots and arms back and forth across the glass. The blade profile and arm force must suit the windshield and installation. A component with the same length or similar appearance is not necessarily interchangeable with the existing part.

Collect the installation inputs

Provide photographs from the front, mounting side and available space; include a reference scale and label the dimensions. Record the electrical supply, existing part labels, desired arrangement, environment and quantity. Identify whether the request is for one component or a complete supply package.

Use the right guide for the next question

For motor interfaces and performance inputs, read motor selection. For layout and supply scope, read system selection. For a symptom-led investigation, read wiper troubleshooting. For supplier comparison, read supplier evaluation.

Maintain and review the installed system

Follow the vehicle and component instructions. Inspect wiping quality, blade condition, mounting security and visible damage. Investigate a change in speed, noise or parking position rather than assuming the motor is the only possible cause. Have a qualified technician isolate electrical and mechanical faults before replacing parts.

Send the information needed for a technical review

Send installation photographs, the LEILI model if known, measured dimensions or a drawing, electrical supply and quantity. LEILI model numbers identify our own products or layout references; they are not OE-number cross-references. Contact LEILI for a configuration review.
